Introduction: Indirect restorations, such as fixed porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown and bridge prosthesis require preparation that needs to follow the established tooth preparation principles to achieve successful restoration. One of the preparation principles that need to be considered is the taper angle, resulting from the axial wall tapering. To achieve maximum retention, the recommended taper angle is a value of 6. In clinical practice, preparation errors are frequently found; for instance, the over-reduction and difficulties in axial reduction of the tooth. Thus, clinical-level education is needed to train the student’s competence and improve their skills to achieve the recommended and more precise preparation results. Methods: The research was conducted using a descriptive observation method with a total sample of 30 patients at the Prosthodontics Department at RSGM Unpad from the clinical students of FKG Unpad. The patient’s jaw is scanned using a digital intraoral scanner, then the size of the taper angles is measured using CorelDRAW, with the ideal angle taper of 6-10. The collected data is processed statistically using the chi-square test. Results: The average taper angle which is formed mesiodistally and buccolingually is 25,0 ± 14,5 and 14,9 ± 12,7 consecutively, which are greater than the recommended taper angle value. Conclusion: The preparation of porcelain-fused-to-metal done by FKG Unpad clinical students did not reach the ideal taper angle value.
