Antibiotic are crucial substances in treatment, management and control of infectious diseases. But unfortunately due to inappropriate use of antibiotics microorganisms have developed resistance against most of antibiotics, antibiotic inappropriate use and their resistance to antibiotics have been the reason of increased cost in treatment with antibiotics.
Objective: In this research we have aimed to calculate the use of antibiotics in Daily Defined Dose (DDD) value, and to analyze cost-minimization of antibiotics use taking DDD value in consideration, at Al Ihsan Hospital Bandung in a period of 2014-2016.
Method: Descriptive qualitative study was designed and quantitative data of antibiotics usage from BPJS list of drugs in 3 periods of time each 2014, 2015, and 2016, at Al Ihsan hospital were used for this study, cost and consumption rate in DDD of antibiotics were calculated for each time period and Anova statistical analysis was used to compare data.
Results: Significant differences in the consumption rate and cost of antibiotics were found in the years under study, 2014 was the year with minimum cost expended and minimum DDDs of antibiotics used, and 2016 was the costliest most used antibiotics.
Conclusion:
Key Words: antibiotics, defined daily dose, drug utilization 90%, cost minimization analysis
