Pharmaceutical Chartbook
This book provide access to valuable primary references that can guide the reader to original sources of data. And to provide a bird's-eye view of significant trends in the pharmaceutical industry and changes in the way pharmaceutical care is delivered. The book is divided to 10 chapters. Chapter 1 provides cross-sectional nad trend information on age, gender, race, and income distributions as related to morbidity, disability, and mortality in the U.S. population. Chapter 2 examines trends in prescription volume, major prescribed drugs and drug categories, the proportion of new versus refill prescriptions, braded versus generically dispensed, and OTC retail sales. Chapter 3 presents trends in U.S. health expenditures, medical and general price inflation, insurance costs, expenditures on medications as a proportion of health care expenditures, and expenditures on sales for the major therapeutic categories, as well as the societal costs of selected illnesses.Chapter 4 examines payment mechanism for health care and changes in the structure and organization of health care delivery. Chapter 5 identifies the major pharmaceutical manufacturers according to market share, and for each manufacturer, the major products. Chapter 6 reviews expenditures on research and development and the resulting IND and NDA applications, NCEs, and patents. Chapter 7 has as its major topics concentration in wholesale companies and distribution centers and wholesale customer mix. Chapter 8 characterizes the different drug distribution channels. Chapter 9 profiles U.S. hospitals according to ownership characteristic and specialty area. This section identifies trends in surgical procedures and details pharmaceutical management and services in these facilities. Chapter 10 provides demographic profiles of pharmacists and other health care providers.
