Chemistry of Natural Products: A Unified Approach
A new chapter, General Introduction, has been added, wherein the different types of secondary metabolites are briefly discussed with the help of examples. It provides students new to the subject with the much needed background for understanding the succeeding chapters. A new introductory section has been added to each chapter to provide basic information regarding the methods and strategies described in the chapter. The number of case studies under Structure, Stereochemistry, Reactions and Rearrangements, and Synthesis, has been increased from ten to fourteen to enlarge the scope of the book, and to cover a wider range of secondary metabolites. In so doing, the requirements as per the prescribed syllabi of different universities in India have been taken into account, at the same retaining the objectives delineated in the introduction to the first edition. The chapters on Biosynthesis and Biological Aspects have been revised and expanded to incorporate some new discoveries. The problems section has also been expanded to include a few recently discovered compounds. While making the book more useful to a wider section of students and teachers, care has be taken to keep the book as compact as possible.
