Calculation of Medication Dosages: Practical Strategies to Ensure Safety and Accuracy
This book provides the fundamental knowledge, concepts, and methods for dosage calculation that all nursing students need for accurate and safe medication administration and for preparing to take the NCLEX-RN. The book has 11 chapters. Chapter 1, mathematic review, provides readers with a review of basic arithmetic. Chapter 2, system of measurement, covers the metric, apothecary, and house hold system of measurement. Readers will learn the conversion equivalents foe each of the measurement system, along with how to apply each of the measurement systems, along with how to apply each equivalent appropriately and accurately. Chapter 3, preparing equipment and drugs for administration, discusses how to select the correct type of measuring device for oral medications. Chapter 4, drug orders, provides information in interpreting prescribed orders for medication, including the key elements of a drug order for medication, including the key elements of a drug order and standard and accepted abbreviations. Chapter 5, medication labels and packaging systems, covers information nurses need to correctly read a medication label. Chapter 6, strategies for drug calculation, teaches a simple 3-step approach convert, compute, and critically think to correctly calculate medication dosages. Chapter 11, pediatric calculations, discusses how to safely calculate medication dosages for pediatric patients when the dosage prescribed is based on weight.
