[TESIS] ADAPTASI KULTURAL SURFACE STRUCTURE MATERIAL UNIT 5: COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY Modul Social and Emotional Skill Training for Children The Fast Track Friendship Group Program untuk Anak Usia 5 – 8 Tahun

"Abstract
Communication skills are an essential factor that affects children's self-esteem
and confidence in making friends. The Friendship Group Program is a program
that has proven its effectiveness in improving communication skills as an essential
element of children's socio-emotional skills in making friends in children in
America, Canada, Europe, and African Americans. This study aims to adapt Unit
5: Communicating Effectively material into a form appropriate to the culture and
development of children aged 5-8 years in Indonesia. The method used is the
adaptation of cultural surface structure, which consists of 4 stages: information
gathering, preliminary adaptation design, preliminary adaptation test, and
adaptation refinement. At the information gathering stage, two kindergarten
teachers carried out an initial analysis of the original material. In the preliminary
adaptation design stage, the material was translated from English to Indonesian
by two forward translators, then the results of the forward translation were
translated into English by two backward translators. After obtaining the
translation results into Indonesian agreed upon by the forward and backward
translators, the expert judgment was conducted by one Child Clinical
Psychologist, one Educational Psychologist, and one Sociologist. In the
preliminary adaptation test stage, cognitive interviews were conducted with five
children aged 5-8 years and five mothers. At the adaptation refinement stage, the
material was revised based on the cognitive interview results. The result of
cultural adaptation is the material ""Unit 5: Communicating Effectively"" in
Indonesian, with pictures of types of exercise, types of food, and types of objects
that are more commonly recognized by children aged 5-8 years in Indonesia, the
format of the material for parents is in the form of a checklist, and there are
additional notes on the three concepts in the material so that Indonesian children
can understand it.
