Overview of Accuracy of Bite Mark Analysis using Computer-based Overlay Method: A Rapid Review
Abstract: Bite Mark is a pattern left on an object or tissue as a side effect of a
biting process which could be used as legal evidence in the enforcement of justice.
The computer-based overlay method is commonly used because of its efficiency
and time-saving. This writing aims to determine the accuracy of bite mark
analysis using a computer-based overlay method. Methods: Articles searched
using keywords “((bite mark)) AND ((analysis)) AND ((computer)) OR
((computerized)) AND ((overlay))”, conducted through PubMed, and Microsoft
Academic. The inclusion criteria were: using predetermined keywords; English
language; available on full paper; published in the range between 2011-2021; low
risk of bias; and adapted to the PICO framework. JBI Critical Appraisal Tool was
used. This paper writing refers to the PRISMA guidelines. Results: A total of 6
(six) articles met the criteria for the review, and all showed a high range of quality
articles. It was found that the computerized overlay method shows higher
accuracy than other methods. Conclusion: Bite Mark analysis using the
computer-based overlay method is a method with good accuracy and could be
used as a recommendation to help find legal evidence in the enforcement of
justice.
