Implementation of teledentistry during the COVID-19 pandemic at Bandung community health centers

Teledentistry is starting to be used by dentists as an alternative innovative solution to minimize the risk
of transmitting COVID-19 and other infections. Dentists at the Bandung community health center have
started implementing teledentistry since the government issued a reference for dental and oral health
services during the pandemic. The purpose was to determine the implementation of teledentistry in
community health centers based on references issued by the government. The population were dentists
who carried out teledentistry during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Bandung community health centers.
The sample is 26 respondents, used non-probability sampling technique. This type of cross-sectional
descriptive research uses an online questionnaire regarding the implementation of teledentistry based
on the Technical Guidelines for Dental and Oral Health Services from the Indonesian Ministry of
Health. Implementation of teledentistry include teleconsultation, telediagnosis, teletriage,
telemonitoring, teleeducation, communication tools, giving prescriptions and referral letters, service
fees, and recording medical records. Data analysis was carried out by presenting the results of
teledentistry implementation; teledentistry that has been carried out by dentists is teleconsultation
100%, telediagnosis 92.3%, teleriage 76.9%, telemonitoring 7.7%, teleeducation 92.3%, and 100%
carried out teledentistry via short message chat, had given prescriptions 76.9% and referral letters
80.7%, 84.6% provide services for free, and only 57.6% who recorded medical records. The
implementation of teledentistry by dentists during the COVID-19 pandemic at community health centers
is still not in accordance with the reference from the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Especially in the
implementation of the teletriage, telemonitoring, and recording medical records.
