The Relation of Interalar Width to Intercanine Distance among Malaysian Female Malay, Chinese and Indian Students of UNPAD

The interalar width is the distance between the most lateral aspects of the nose. As for intercanine distance, it is defined as the mesiodistal width of the six maxillary anterior teeth which are the central incisors, lateral incisors and canines. The goal of this research is to find out whether there is a relation of interalar width to intercanine distance between different Malaysian Malay, Chinese and Indian female students who are studying in UNPAD.
The method used for this research was descriptive study with analytical statistical approach. Stratified random sampling technique was used to determine the sample size from the total population of Malaysian female Malay, Chinese and Indian students of Faculty of Dentistry from batch 2011 to 2015. The data was analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Shapiro-Wilk test and Levene test. The result shows that there is positive correlation between interalar width and intercanine distance among Malaysian female Malay, Chinese and Indian students.
In conclusion, there is a relation of interalar width and intercanine distance among Malaysian female Malay, Chinese and Indian students.
