Semakin meluasnya pertanaman kentang di dataran tinggi emnimbulkan dampak negatif seperti perusakan lingkungan akibat erosi. Dalam rangka mengurangi perluasan penanaman kentang di dataran tinggi, maka pelu dicari alternatif untuk mengembangkan tanaman kentang yang dapat ditanam di dataran medium dengan ketinggian 300-700 m yang tersedia cukup luas di Indonesia.
